Foreign media reports that Apple will not launch a new iPad this year

Earlier, Apple CEO Tim Cook said in the latest quarterly conference call that Apple has not launched any new iPad products this year, which indicates that Apple will not launch a new iPad in the remaining two months of the year. On Sunday, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that Apple plans to refresh its entire iPad lineup in 2024, which means that Apple will launch a new iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad mini, and a new entry-level iPad next year.

Mark Gurman pointed out that "Apple could have rushed out more new products, but the revamped iPad and AirPods weren't ready yet." It is reported that the low-end iPad may be launched as early as March 2024; New 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models with M3 chips and OLED displays will be launched in the first half of 2024; The new iPad Air and iPad mini, likely to be equipped with M2 and A16 Bionic chips respectively, are expected to arrive sometime in 2024. As for AirPods, the second generation of AirPods Pro introduces a USB-C charging case, and there are no further changes beyond that, the new low-end AirPods will be available in 2024, and the updated AirPods Pro model will be available in 2025.

Judging from the current products on the official website, the latest generation of iPad and iPad Pro were released in October last year, the iPad Air was released in March last year, the oldest is the iPad mini, and there has been no updated product since the launch in September 2021.

Since the M3 chip is mentioned, it will be said in passing here. Mark Gurman said that the M3 chip is not a big performance improvement over the M2, but compared to the M1, the M3 is a good update. In Geekbench 6's multicore tests, the M3's processor actually matched the M2 Pro's 10-core processor, while in the single-core benchmark, the M3's processor outperformed the M2 Pro, with a performance boost.

Mark Gurman claims that the 2023 24-inch iMac will have twice the performance of the 2021 model. In terms of M3 Pro, he said that the M3 Pro chip added a pair of energy-efficient cores, but the number of GPU cores did not increase, and could not be compared with M2 Pro, and only led 6% in the multi-core running score of Geekbench 6, and there was not much improvement in performance.

Mark Gurman spoke highly of the M3 Max, stating that the M3 Max offers the largest performance improvement over its predecessor, with a 37% difference in the number of transistors between the M2 Max and the M3 Max, the largest of any M-series chipset. "It adds more main processing cores and graphics cores, increases the memory capacity of the laptop to 128 GB, and users can now just carry around a laptop with 16 main cores and 40 graphics cores. You can make it perform on par with desktops like M2 Ultra Mac Studio or Mac Pro."

But then again, Apple only released the M2 Pro and M2 Max 14 inch and 16 inch Macbook Pro earlier this year, less than a year later launched the M3 series chip 14 inch and 16 inch Macbook Pro and the new 24 inch iMac, From Apple's timeline that does not release products according to the past practice, the impact of the global PC industry's decline on Apple is still quite large.
